Message from the President

Er. Ho Siong Hin

Welcome to the official homepage of the International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI) where you will find out more information and activities about IALI.

On behalf of the new Executive Committee (EC) members, I would like to thank you once again for your support at the recent IALI’s General Assembly. As mentioned in my previous message, the General Assembly was held virtually on 15 July 2021. Members attending the General Assembly voted for the new EC through electronic balloting. Since then, the new EC has started the work to plan and organise activities for our members. My team and I will continue to do our best to chart the way forward for IALI in the next three years.

Since 1972, IALI has been the global foundation association for labour inspection. We provide information through various channels for members to improve labour inspection services. IALI also plays an active role in providing the foundation for building professional, ethical, and effective labour inspection worldwide. 2022 will be a significant milestone for IALI as it marks its 50th anniversary. Do keep a lookout for the many interesting activities we have planned for next year.

The Covid-19 pandemic has inevitably impacted everyone’s lives and physical meetings were deemed impossible. But it also has taught us to think on our feet, transferring from physical meetings to digital platforms. We were able to facilitate discussions and attend conferences through the wonders of technology. We will continue to do so, until a time when it is safe for us to meet physically again.

Some of the virtual conferences and webinars that IALI conducted/attended were:

  • 9th ASEAN Labour Inspection Conference - IALI presented a paper on managing COVID-19 and discussed several methods on how to tackle challenges arising from the pandemic and protecting the health of our workforce.

  • IALI Webinar on COVID-19 and the implications for Labour Inspectorates – Labour inspectorates from around the world shared their experiences on how they managed the pandemic crisis and how they could be better prepared for similar situations in the future.

  • IALI Webinar on Competency Framework for labour inspectorates – IALI presented the paper on Competency Framework for Labour Inspectorates which focused on competency-based learning, establishing a common framework for training, and providing a definitive path for labour inspectors to upgrade themselves.

IALI exists to serve our members, and only if you find it beneficial, then it will be meaningful for our work as well as for everyone. I would like to take this opportunity express my sincere appreciation for your continuous support in IALI. I look forward to welcoming you to IALI events and activities.
